Woodstock and Gimme Shelter employed slick camera techniques, clever editing, split screens, and concentrated as much on the events surrounding the concerts as the music itself. The Concert for Bangladesh, on the other hand, uses the most pedestrian of camera techniques, choosing to focus mainly on the performers' faces, with only occasional pans to the audience. Director Pamela Berlin moves the energetic cast through difficult transitions from one scene to the next with such skill that they smoothly glide over the weaknesses in Van Itallie's play. Amusing bits, such as Andy Rose's radio-bopping pedestrian, and perpetual motion on stage help them get over the play's pretentious stretches with only minor casualties...
