...butnot great. Most of the tracks log in at adisappointingly short two minutes, and some of theselections seem devoid of any musical explorationat all. Still, each disc contains some pearls: theDuane Eddy (with his Twangy Guitar) tracks on the50s disc kick ass (the disc also contains"Tequila" of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure fame), andThe Rebels' "Wild Weekend" from the 60s disc makesyou want to shuffle on down to your local frathouse (or wherever it was that college-types wentto party in the early 60s). The two Lonnie MackSouthern boogie tracks are superb, featuring greatstraight-ahead guitar work...
...that the fact that none of this sides would be satisfied with such a pee and large numbers of foreign troops would probably be needed to keep it, and you have a recipe for disaster, or at least serious chickening out on the part of the West...
After the success of 1987, one wonders how ateam goes 2-8--like it did in 1988. Theseason began well enough, with the Crimsondefeating Columbia 41-7. (Of course, some Pee-Weeteams could defeat Columbia 41-7.) Harvard didn'twin another game until Brown came up to TheStadium for the annual Thank God for Bad Teams orElse Our Record Would Really Be Bad Game, whichHarvard won easily...
...Burton's movies are continually faulted for being visual feasts without plots. More like cartoons than live-action films, they are heavy on surreal style and light on story development. Luckily, his leads are generally more cartoonish than real anyway: Pee Wee Herman, Beetlejuice and Batman. But as "Batman Returns" hinted, even these films are too limiting for Burton. With "The Nightmare Before Christmas," Burton may have found the ideal vehicle for his sensibilities: an actual animated feature totally free from the constraints of actors...
