The price: $1.12 to $1.15 per bu., about 12? lower than high supports would have been, but 6? to 9? per bu. higher than the present price peg for noncompliance corn. At Benson's price, efficient growers can make good money on all the well-fertilized hybrids that their big tractors can cultivate...

...there is really no plot. On the one side, Tati lines up the protagonists of the gadget: a manufacturer of plastics, whose pride and joy is the cubistic chateau in which he spatially participates with a severely functional, ever-scrubbing wife, a discontented son who is obviously a round peg in a square hole, and a free-form dachshund. Then 1958's farm prosperity (TIME, May 12) began splitting the congressional farm bloc: the House refused even to consider a wild, catchall Democratic farm bill, and the Senate passed a strong bill which would 1) significantly lower price supports, and 2) loosen acreage controls for corn, cotton, rice and grains. Benson pronounced himself satisfied with the Senate bill-and fought to keep...
