...Jeffrey Kluger stated that "in the tut-tut world of exposé journalism, astronauts-particularly women-misbehave at their peril." I'm not sure exactly how women these days are "misbehaving," but I am sure that there are countless successful, powerful women who would be incensed by your characterization. Nowak in no way represents average, hardworking women, and for your writer to use her behavior as an excuse to demean women is just plain wrong. Just take a look at the way our male politicians are behaving, and tell me that they are not the ones misbehaving at their peril...
...criticize telecharlatans like Jerry Falwell, and now he's snuggling up to them. People may assume he's playing some sort of Iraq game too. There is a difference between flip-flopping and admitting a mistake. You flip-flop for political advantage. You admit a mistake despite the political peril. McCain did the former; Clinton won't do the latter. Go figure...
...troops. Some of those troops are on their third tour of duty in Iraq, and few of them are pleased to be there. Maybe, as Bush and his advisers no doubt sincerely believe, the drip drip drip of young American blood is worth it. Maybe the critics underestimate the peril of pulling out. Maybe the "surge" will turn out to be a huge success and vindicate Bush's strategy. But please - let's not pretend that staying the course is a favor to the troops...
...today everything is public, and in the tut-tut world of expos? journalism, astronauts-particularly women-misbehave at their peril. Nowak's NASA bio includes a seemingly focus-group-tested list of 10 wholesome hobbies, such as running, skeet shooting and raising African violets-pastimes somewhat at odds with a 900-mile pursuit in a wig and diapers. For now, Nowak will have time to return to those hobbies: NASA has placed her on a 30-day leave. The space agency will move beyond this episode but has already publicly resolved to keep a closer eye on-and take better...
...more an actress-model than a model actress. In Guru she's mainly ornamentation. For most of the film, Gurukant's and Sujatha's marriage is a montage of goodbyes (as he dashes off to cinch another deal) and hellos (as he returns in triumph or in peril). Their relationship has plenty of affection - "You shine as beautifully as polyester," he tells her fondly - but not much heat. Curiously, the movie's most intense, honest physical emotion is between Madhavan and Balan. Their kiss when he proposes to her carries a sock that's missing in the Ash-Abhishek scenes...
