Football practice yesterday afternoon was very spirited, the University eleven scoring three touchdowns on the second team in a 20-minute scrimmage. Later there was another 20-minute scrimmage, part of which was devoted to trying out the defensive strength of the first team. The work in the second period of play was not so good as in the first, neither side being able to score, although the University team backs rushed the ball extremely well; Lockwood, in particular, who made two 20-yard gains in succession on end plays. Forty-three men reported yesterday afternoon for the Freshman crew squad and were put to work on the machines for a twenty-minute period under Coach Wray's supervision. The work this fall will consist chiefly of practice on the machines, but if the mild weather continues one or two boats may later on be sent out on the river. All the Freshmen who have been acting as coxswains in the bumping races will report for the present with the graded crew squad...
