Generally, the one percent of American employers offering this perk aren't providing pet health insurance per se, but rather a discount plan that cuts the cost of veterinary visits and prescriptions by a set percentage. Three-year-old Pet Assure, Inc., of Dover, N.J., provides one such plan, and according to company spokesperson Jerry Hirsch, demand has never been higher.
