The Harvard Darfur Action Group (HDAG) began circulating an online petition in early March in support of their "targeted divestment model," a criteria-based approach that questions the ethics of investing in more than 20 companies accused of helping to finance the genocide in Darfur.
Another HDAG member who has been instrumental in the petition drive, Peter N. Ganong '09, wrote in an e-mail that he was also concerned that the CCSR seemed to give HDAG's proposal second billing.
Yet, this seething mass of clashing clothes and conflicting interests is what Hong Kong democracy now looks like. With the territory's leadership widely castigated over its lack of accountability -for example, ignoring public calls to rein in rapacious property developers and combat environmental degradation, to name just two examples...
The CCSR also addressed a proposal from a concerned student organization, the Harvard Darfur Action Group (HDAG), which had garnered over 1400 petition signatures and sent letters to Interim President Derek C. Bok and President-elect Drew G. Faust regarding its proposed divestment model.
