Kaufmann, who feels many senior tutors share his opposition to keeping pets in the Houses, expounded what we might call the Kaufmann Theory of Escalating Punishment. Another reason for the new interest in owning pets appears to be the old atmosphere of the city, especially in Harvard housing with its sealed-off living units.
