...nightcap Burgy Ayres fought a pitching duel with Phil Smith. Cornell led until the first of the seventh and last inning as a result of a run in the fourth. In the seventh Whittemore drove in the tying run only to have Cornell come back in their half with another. This was the result of a hit batter, two singles and an error by Ayres on the relay to the plate.
