DAVID SHAPIRO, 24, is an intellectual onetime Columbia rebel who achieved notoriety of sorts in a famous 1968 photograph. It showed him occupying President Grayson Kirk's office chair while puffing one of Kirk's "liberated" cigars. Shapiro, who had already published a book of poetry at the time, now calls that episode "mock theater" and gives it only one big plus: he met his future wife during the activity.
