...Naughty boy,” the woman murmurs at the unexpected click of the camera. Buttocks, bare back, graceful arms: the whole is captured by the unseen photographer through the open bathroom door. The year is 1952, and Simone de Beauvoir is visiting her American lover in Chicago. She never saw the photograph—the film was lost for 50 years—but last week Frenchmen saw her naked figure on newsstands across the country. ...royal "we" of the Clinton presidency. She was a part of everything, she insists, from health care to foreign policy. To drive the point home, her campaign sent former President Clinton out virtually full-time on the campaign trail across Iowa and New Hampshire. Just so, Bawa's naturally ventilated Ena de Silva...

When asked to choose the object that best represented him, Alexander J. Tennant ’08 picked a gift from his great-uncle: a black-and-white photograph of unidentified soldiers during Pearl Harbor. “The picture means a lot to me because I am a pretty patriotic person,” said Tennant. “It also reflects my desire to really understand my family and random people that I meet. I want to know what makes them tick, what they love about their lives.” This eager and unassuming friendliness has characterized...
