...films such as Echo of the Elephants, Moss has told the world what she knows about her favorite animals--and helped ensure their survival. As recently as a decade ago, they were being slaughtered wholesale by poachers, who ripped out magnificent ivory tusks to be made into jewelry and piano keys. The testimony of Moss and others stirred outrage that led to an international ban on the free trade of ivory. "Before we started our studies, people felt elephants were there to be used in the way man thought best," says Moss. "But the more we learn about them...

...roof-raising American classical singer and the veteran French composer and pianist rendezvous for a session of bittersweet jazz songs. Legrand selected the tunes (all his own, including Afterthoughts and The Summer Knows), and his piano persuasively conjures the smoky languor of a Left Bank nightclub. But the star of this show is Norman's brilliant voice, which cuts through the nocturnal mood like a shaft of light. Though you can't help wondering what the diva could do if she shrugged off the opera-house manners and let herself go a little more, there's no denying an instrument...

...from singing and arranging for the Callbacks, Jackson fils also plays the violin for the Baroque Chamber Orchestra. He loves the fact that he performs with two very different groups with music from two very different centuries. Likewise, Ben's musical background is quite diverse. He began playing the piano at five and within a few years picked up the violin. The Jacksons lived in Britain for several years and in elementary school, Ben sang with the boys choir at his school. Moving to Dayton, Ohio, in 1991, Ben continued his musical interests by playing in youth orchestras...

...Though clich for dance, the title Without Words is extremely appropriate. Every aspect of the piece creates an unsettling dichotomy between the movement and the other aspects of the piece. The frantic, often jarring movements directly contrasted with the calm harmony of the music, a Shubert composition for the piano and cello. Meanwhile, extremely large photographs of the dancers' movements are projected onto a large screen through which dancers enter and exit. The net result was a definite sense of silence. Visual sensory overload (the fluid movement and frequently-changing photography) combined with soothing, lullaby-esque Shubert music to underline...
