...from getting hurt. Long time Pi members have wondered why they are being looked at so closely this time. Last week's initiation wasn't that different from other years, they say, adding that any initiates who drank too much or got hit in the mouth during an exuberant pig pile brought it on themselves. While one member went so far as to say, "The idea of the initiation isn't to get everybody drunk," the pressure was certainly there. From Ippolito's promise to the legends of other wild initiations, participants must have showed up at the clubhouse...
Three Little Pigs (Walt Disney) is the latest Silly Symphony in color. It shows two disgraceful pink porkers lazily building themselves shacks out of straw. A wolf blows their houses down. The lazy pigs have a more industrious brother who has just completed a brick mansion, in which he allows them to take refuge. When the wolf attempts to huff & puff this house down, he fails ignominiously. He then tries to climb down the chimney. The lazy pigs are alarmed. The industrious pig builds a roaring fire, singes the wolf's tail...

Just as there is the male chauvinist pig, there presumably must be (so to speak) the human chauvinist pig...
...concrete is available that it can only be economical if recognized as forced labor. Farther down the river, at Wanxian, a young woman stevedore, of the same age as the oscilloscope workers, bends and stoops; all her muscles quiver as she heaves and finally lifts two huge buckets of pig livers for the third-class passengers. She staggers, makes it, totters up the gangplank. She is followed by other young women, beasts of burden, staggering under the bales, the cartons, the loadings of the vessel. I am pleased to watch them revolt, screaming, shaking fists at the forewoman who commands...
