Second Banana. The show was conceived by Co-Producer Doug Schustek, and he was so sure of success that a pilot was never shot. All Namath did was an eight-minute presentation film, trading unrehearsed gags with the program's second banana, Writer Dick Schaap (TIME, Sept. 19). Executive Producer Larry Spangler claims that within 24 hours after putting the show on the market, he had signed up sponsor Bristol-Myers and peddled a 15-week package to 38 U.S. TV stations. Seven have been added since; a non-network syndication show has rarely, if ever, caught...

...movie is that it avoids dealing with the tragedy and passes over distasteful episodes. In the book by Robert Crichton an American lands in the village after jumping from Odessa Darling, a B-24. He jumps out of disgust at the bombing of a village of civilians by the pilot of Odessa Darling, who attacks in order to get rid of his bombs before returning to base. Closing the Gap. MIST's concept and operation are simple, but its effects are far-reaching. Begun as a pilot study that covered only four counties in Alabama, the project is now bringing the advice of medical specialists even to some of the most remote corners of the state. The idea was developed late last year by the Alabama Medical College dean, Dr. Clifton K. Meador, whose experience as a physician in Selma, Ala., had led him to believe that there were serious "defects in the communications between physicians and med ical centers." Meador decided to close that...

...scholar than for a designer: he holds an M.A. in social science from Reed College in Oregon and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florence. Pucci joined the Italian air force in World War II and garlanded himself in medals and citations as a bomber pilot. With the war's end, he settled in Switzerland, living the good life on the slopes. It was at St. Moritz that a roving Harper's Bazaar photographer encouraged his sartorial talent by asking to photograph some self-designed stretch ski pants that Pucci was wearing. Lord & Taylor...
