...RRATA: I'd like to congratulate the hundreds of people who won last week's Catch Quittner Err contest--the folks who correctly noted that 3Com's PalmPilot does not run Windows CE, as was stated. Indeed, as someone who owns a Pilot, I know the machine's genius derives from its own operating system, Palm OS. I should have caught the error when it found its way into my copy, but I didn't. However, only four of you noticed the other blooper: the captions under the Sharp Mobilon Pro and Tripad were inadvertently swapped. Shame...

...friend recently showed me a Business Week article with a chart determining whether people belonged to "Generation X" or "Generation Y," based on their consumer preferences. It went something like this: Palm Pilot is for Gen X-ers; Motorola pager with colorful case and chain is for Gen Y-ers. Nirvana is for Gen X-ers; Cardigans is for Gen Y-ers, etc. In any case, I was happily skimming the columns, wondering what cliched label Business Week would slap on me, when I realized that I was a cultural nonentity according to the magazine--just a bit of flotsam...

...Camp Lejeune military jury trying a Marine pilot on charges that he recklessly flew his jet into the cables holding an Italian ski gondola fired a shot on Thursday that is bound to be heard around the world. The jury acquitted Capt. Richard Ashby on all charges for the killing of the 20 people in the gondola -- two Poles, seven Germans, five Belgians, three Italians, two Austrians and one Dutch.
