Encircled Capital. The old question came up for debate again last week: Why had the U.S. launched the Cambodian foray in the first place? The "pink Prince," as Sihanouk now calls himself, announced from his Peking exile that Nixon had acted only because a "liberation army" was "on the point of taking the capital by assault." Nixon did say in his April 30 speech that the Communists "are encircling" Phnom-Penh, but White House advisers cite other factors in his decision. ...shaven mathematics teachers, the Art Deco furniture-all preserved through the years an unwitting museum of redolent nostalgia. The scaled-down desks, the dwarfed nation of students, the knee-high urinals-all attested to the passage of time. The clots of eighth-grade hoydens with their manila complexions and pink eraser thighs attested to my eternal puerility. His self-styled New Royal Government of National Union won instant recognition from several Communist countries, prompting Sihanouk to quip that, as a French-educated aristocrat...

...Kennedy was duly courteous, though Jackie never bore much affection for the big, earthy Texan. He described her appearance after the assassination as "a tragic thing to observe. And what that morning was a beautiful, unspoiled, nicely pressed pink garment that was the last word in fashion and style and looks . . . and she still had the same garment on, but it was streaked and caked and soiled throughout with her husband's blood...

JACKSON: First, fascism must be seen as a sickness, and not as a means, to be dealt with by psychotherapists and not by white politicians. That's the first thing that must be understood. Pink-skin worship is pathological, and a person is sick who is threatened by people of another color. So racism at that level is a white problem...
