This conflict, of course, has forced many people to see sights they do not ever want to see. And determining which few of those sights the world shares has become a front in itself, a pixel intifadeh. The battle erupted on the Internet last December when msnbc.com sponsored a contest for the best news photo of 2000. The early leader was a picture of Mohammed al-Durra, 12, a terrified Palestinian boy screaming and hiding behind his father in the midst of a street battle in the Gaza Strip. Moments after the photo was taken, he was killed...
High-speed Internet connections, Web-enabled cell phones and billion-pixel-per-sq.-in. TV monitors are water 2.0. Not only don't they work (except for certain rumored customers in certain districts in certain unnamed cities), they're also substitutes for those things that do work (hard drives, basic long-distance service) but have come down so far in price over the years that these products are now known as "commodities," and no one can make money selling them...

"How to: acheive photographic perfection with Adobe Photoshop...
...Color printing is done with three colors: cyan (a greenish blue), magenta (a purplish red) and yellow. Close took his photo, had color separations made, and then proceeded to render each square of the canvas with each of the colors, successively, exquisitely controlling the amount of each hue per pixel. There was a yellow face, then a blue overlay, and then with the magenta one--presto, full exact color. No room for deviation or correction. Paint-by-numbers raised to the nth degree. It goes so far out in the direction of illusion that it hits abstraction coming back...
