...Crimson varsity, rowing over placid waters into a slight headwind, was never threatened. After a 15-stroke racing start, stroke Lou McCagg settled to a 32, and held the beat between 31 and 32 1/2 for the rest of the race. Harvard led by half mile, length at the half mile, a litle over a length at the mile, and despite the Tigers' sprint, pulled out at the end. ...pastoral style, strongly reminiscent of Vaughan Williams. The first three movements became slightly monotonous because of the similarity of their musical ideas, though this impression may be due to the uniformity of the tempi with which they were performed. In the fourth movement, Mr. Davison departs from his hitherto placid style and attempts, I think successfully, a more elaborate plan. Especially noteworthy are the many long, beautifully constructed melodies which appear in the course of this composition...
