Stewart's twin-engine Learjet 35 left Orlando International Airport promptly at 9:19 a.m. and 25 minutes later radioed that it had leveled off at 39,000 ft. Shortly afterward, though, air-traffic controllers noticed that the plane had climbed well above its assigned altitude. Controllers repeatedly tried to contact the pilots for an explanation but got no reply. At that point, the Federal Aviation Administration enlisted the help of the Air Force. Several F-16s were dispatched to check on the errant jet. It also missed the left turn it was scheduled to make toward Texas, and instead...
Indeed the result was quite spectacular. Technically, the play was a sensory splendor--most arresting on the visual plane, but pleasing to more senses than just the eyes. What is immediately apparent is the role of inanimacy in this production, the unspoken heroics of sound and lightning, although purists might have viewed this aesthetic exhibition as more of a reliance than a means to an end. Admittedly, the very hipness of the event did at times seem incongruous with the apparent simultaneous desire for austerity, which is difficult to completely discount with Marlowe's text and the Faust legend...

The Pentagon has said Cairo asked Washington to withhold details about the Egyptians aboard the plane pending notification of next of kin, but Arab newspapers have alleged the personnel may have been training in the U.S. "The facts of this case are not as important as the impression that our government is attempting to conceal the facts," the council wrote. "In order to extinguish any rumor of conspiracy...
...less of an imbecile (and no less of a dilettante) than Bouvard and Pecuchet, I fear I might also have come to share this habit of theirs. Stupidity is a harsh word. To use it is to suggest that one speaks from a more enlightened plane, which in my case would be an absurdity comparable to Hitler's claim that he was a man of peace. What I can say is that the sheer strangeness of everyday life confuses...
