Since Wild Horse Annie's campaign got under way, most Western states have outlawed mustang hunting by plane on state lands. After hearing her testimony last week, many sympathetic Congressmen agreed that the practice should be outlawed on federal lands, too. Passage of Wild Horse Annie's bill seems likely -with one amendment. The Interior Department claims the horses are a potential threat to grazing lands, asked the right to hunt them humanely if the herds get too big. Wild Horse Annie has no objection to that...

Last week, as Khrushchev alighted from his plane to begin a ten-day visit to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the founding of Poland's people's republic, he warmly bussed Gomulka on both cheeks. "Dear Comrade . . ." his airport speech began, and it ended with, "Long live the eternal, unbreakable Soviet-Polish friendship!" Gomulka was just as unctuous, praised Khrushchev as "the sincere friend of the Polish people," a "wise, distinguished...

It is a striking example of Caravaggio's favorite color combination-red and black-which has influenced painters from Georges de La Tour to the abstract-expressionist Mathieu. It lifts realism to an exalted plane by making the figure a light in darkness, as Rembrandt was later to do. ...first the MIGs tried to form into a huge circle one behind the other, a new Communist tactic* the Nationalists described as "like Indians attacking a wagon train," in which "individual flying ability counts for little," since every plane's vulnerable tail is protected by the plane behind it. But the Sabre jets' quick passes into the circle made short work of that, and for 20 minutes-long for a jet battle -the planes whirled in a melee ranging from 40,000 ft. all the way down to the sea. When it was all over, four MIGs were...
