Every year, at least 200,000 Americans with chronic lower back pain turn to spinal-fusion surgery for relief. The Food and Drug Administration has approved an alternative called the Charité. It's an artificial disk--high- density plastic sandwiched between metal plates--designed to replace the natural fluid-filled disks of the lower spine when they are damaged by degenerative disk disease. Doctors hope the Charité, which has been used in Europe since 1987, will allow patients more freedom of movement than the spinal-fusion procedure...

...perfect. A bright light facing the front of the stage serves as both religious illumination and a movie screen. When they are not on stage, the actors other than Cozzens and Fishburn sit in stalls, each illuminated by a bare light bulb and containing a gleaming wire and clear plastic mask of a horseâs head (created with obvious care by Andrea E. Flores â05, Shaun Rolly, and Nancy Lewis). As the action calls for it, they strap on the masks and walk onto the stage as horses, with a high-stepping horse-like gait...
...first album, No Kill No Beep Beep, which showed some positive post-hardcore influences, their second album (sans bassist), Different Damage, softened up a bit on some tracks (âSoft Pyramidsâ), but elsewhere managed to get a bit more dance-y ( âBlack Plastic Bagâ). Power, unfortunately, lacks any of the redeeming qualities of their first two attempts. After an opening track (âWonderful Peopleâ) that sounds as if they canât decide whether the sound they want to go for is more of an imitation...
