...Australian everyman; a working fellow who likes sharing jokes with his mates. He arrived in Canberra in 1994 encased in a V-neck jumper when all around him Keating Labor staffers wore superfine suits. A mere 18 months ago, Latham was in the outer at the Sydney Cricket Ground, plastic beer cup in hand, watching an Ashes Test. Howard was there, too - in the Australian Cricket Board suite sipping wine with the chairman. Latham is more complex than the blokey caricature. ...goodbye to 1960s-style molded plastic and Plexiglas. For today's designers of home furnishings, it's all about natural materials. Also, the bulletin warned, terrorists might attach bombs to buoys. FBI and Department of Homeland Security officials say no such devices have actually been discovered, nor is there any current intelligence that terrorists are hatching...
Looking for the perfect way to light an outdoor summer party and enhance your garden? Forget tangled strings of lights and kerosene-fueled torches. Dutch designer Rob Slewe has come up with a mod approach: flowerpots that double as outdoor lights. Bloom! is a 23-in.-high recycled plastic pot with four LED lights inside. Not only does it provide a soft glow to any outdoor environment, but it also holds plants and is energy efficient (drawing a maximum of just 6 watts). Fill it with ice and chill cold drinks or cover the top with plate glass and create...
