...Zahedi, 48, escort of beautiful women-last year's favorite was Elizabeth Taylor-lavish dispenser of caviar, which he delivers to friends by liveried chauffeur, former husband of the daughter of the Shah of Iran and probably Washington's best-known diplomat and partygiver. Hidden by his playboy image is his tremendous competence as an ambassador. He is also the chairman of the board of governors of the Islamic Center...

Nearly all copies of Hustler are offered on newsstands, and most of its advertising is for Flynt-marketed dildos, vibrators and other such recreational equipment. The publisher, who owns his magazine outright, claims he netted $20 million last year, two-thirds of it from Hustler, the rest from his sexual devices and from Chic, a slightly flossier Los Angeles-based sibling magazine he launched last summer...

Haley began getting regular assignments from the Reader's Digest and later Playboy, where he inadvertently created that magazine's monthly interview format while doing a piece on Jazz Trumpeter Miles Davis. Another of his subjects was Black Muslim Leader Malcolm X, which led to his first book. Published in 1965, The Autobiography of Malcolm X became a 6-million-copy bestseller...
