Even more overwhelming are shots of bereaved women as they touch and caress the wounds and the frozen feet of their dead; or the restrained but colossal grief and passion for retribution in the faces of the men & women in the audience as they react to the German secret field policeman...
...clock curfew disrupted Manhattan's subway and bus systems, and that it would cause speakeasies to flower, made a nationwide radio speech to explain himself. He said that an hour of "tolerance" would make the curfew more easily enforced. Then he went on to plead that the city does not license bars which offer no entertainment, thus has no control over them. But nobody seemed to be listening...
Kesselring could play the role the Nazis may want him to play. He could surrender the bulk of the armies in the west, then plead that he had no control over Nazi-led fanatics. From their southern bastion, the Nazis could blame the final blowup on leading Army figures...
