In the aisles, dozens of bid spotters, dressed in implausible ice cream-hued tuxedos, gesture, shout, plead, cheer and jump...
...tarnished by the conversations. One is General Alexander Haig, who served as Nixon's last chief of staff and who resigned last week as commander of NATO (see following story). In a June 4, 1973, tape made public by the House Judiciary Committee, he apparently advised Nixon to plead forgetfulness to blunt the impact of a previously released tape on which Nixon approved paying for the silence of the Watergate burglars. The pa per is artificially limited to eight pages an issue and a circulation of 40,000. Editor Turowicz routinely prepares twice as much copy as he needs...

One defense expert, Dr. Jerry Jones, told the jury that what White suffered from was "not the blues, what you and I call being depressed." It was genetically caused melancholia, "as if the world were viewed through black glasses." Another defense doctor refused to elevate White's condition...
