...social standards of suburban Connecticut in the mid-1960s, the multiple rejections consigned me to the outer darkness, destined to be shunned on commuter trains, blackballed at country clubs and never allowed to buy a home in a community with four-acre zoning. I would have to plod through life stigmatized by the knowledge that I had been judged "Not Ivy League material...

...Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive turned out to be an epic logistical headache and a historic huckster's delight (kitschy western "art" and $3,000 gold-plated Winchester rifles for sale). To allow 2,400 people (including a handful of real cowboys), 200 wagons and 2,800 cattle to plod 50 miles and six days from Roundup to Billings, U.S. Highway 87 had to be closed for two days. Saturday mail service to 15,000 Billings residents was canceled in anticipation of the drive's arrival, which produced something unknown in days of yore -- gridlock. One human death...

Even after chewing on it for three days, I cannot think of word scathing enough to describe Reynolds' somnabulatory performance. He's so wooden that you want to build an addition out of him. He stumbles through the moronic plot like the newly-resurrected, his face frozen into a tanned grimace, with not a single...

Then, as your classmates plod off again to the library, feeling all the vacuous redundance that accompanies a three day drive across the rolling obscurity of a midwestern prairie, you sink back, relishing the heady exhaustion a mountaineer feels after returning home from an assault on Everest...
