...enlists Schneider’s help. They start an affair and take off on a whirlwind tour of Spain, as he searches for a way to avoid his old identity and to discover how to live a completely new life. The beauty of the movie is not encased in the plot, which is simple enough. Rather than turn this into high-tension melodrama, complete with mad car chases and imprisonments, Antonioni pares everything down to the most minimalist possible point. The delicious assortment of visual simplicity needs no additional thrills or frills. From his beautiful palette—all blues, beiges...

Then again, the last three episodes have been among the series’ best, so perhaps all hope is not lost.
