Though his friend Major George L. Berry carried on the meeting-denouncing the strike as an A. F. of L. plot to embarrass him-John L. Lewis refused to cross the picket line, even declined an offer to cross if the pickets were temporarily withdrawn.* Four days later in Manhattan's Biltmore Hotel, while he was in the midst of a wage conference with coal operators, an emissary interrupted him with the disturbing news that two pickets of the A. F. of L.'s Exterminators & Fumigators' Union were parading before the street entrance below. Dismayed Mr. Lewis...
Among the residents of "Newberry Hall," run by an elaborately folksy old gentleman named Humphrey Newberry (Charles Coburn), are a he-man who gives blood donations, a dyspeptic who reads obituary notices, a Kansas City beauty contest winner, a cinemacting goose that earns $15 per day for its owner. Plot complications are ground out when a personable newcomer (Russell Hardie) turns out to be not only a university psychologist but the estranged husband of Newberry's daughter. For humor Sun Kissed draws heavily on the special California attitude toward oranges, climate, Florida, earthquakes...

Spears, move in circles similar to those she describes, with officers living beyond their means and trying to counter-balance the everyday boredom of peacetime military existence by gambling for high stakes and similar diversions...
...course the plot comes to the natural conclusion: Orloff is found out, and Nicole Picot, bitterly disillusioned, none-the-less stands by him to the end, ending up by marrying her true lover, English diplomat Anthony Wayne. This commonplace plot is somewhat remedied by the acting of Francis and Rains, and in case you're interested in women's dresses, there's always the fashion show put on at the Maison Picot...
...from plot or passions that "The Mystic Mountain" derives its excellence. It is rather from the beauty and peace of the countryside portrayed, a peace that seems to biot out even the final tragedy. The finest shot in the picture is of a flock of hens, silhouetted against the sky. The best music is that played by a peasant orchestra at a festival, with a liquid cornet carrying the melody. It is such things that make "The Mystic Mountain" worth the trip to the Fine Arts...
