...detailed recommendations, including increasing total class time, critics aren't impressed. Abe "doesn't address the real problems that Japan's education system faces," says the SDP's Fukushima, who notes that Japan still spends considerably less per student on public schooling than the O.E.C.D. average-forcing parents to plug the gap by sending their kids to private schools if they can afford...
...exquisitely funny as the family listens to his and his brother's first radio sketch: he keeps covering his face, then peering out with mounting horror as he realizes that they realize that he meant it all to be about them. Chunky Jason Alexander, with his spark-plug, salesman's personality, plays a characterization of Eugene's brother Stanley that has shifted radically since Brighton Beach. That Stanley was a sweet and decent nebbish, acutely aware of his limitations. For the new Stanley, Alexander's neurotic edge and propulsive energy are just right...
...expect willful ignorance from Joan Rivers, but not the rest of you - nobody could pronounce those foreign names. Naomi Watts flubbed Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu; Meryl Streep gave Spanish film Volver a nice plug but rhymed it with Oliver; Barrymore botched composer Alexandre Desplat's name badly enough when announcing the Best Score category that co-presenter Hugh Grant snatched away the winner's card with Desplat's name, saying, "Yeah, it's in French." Remarkably, everyone could pronounce that Kazakh fellow Borat's name just fine...

A lithium ion battery pack powers the car and a three-cylinder engine can recharge the batteries, extending the vehicle's driving range up to 640 miles. The engine also runs on E85 ethanol, getting fuel economy up to 150 miles per gallon - and conceivably eliminating the need for gasoline almost entirely. All in all, it would be a quantum leap over GM's last electric...
...There is a Google Earth plug-in you can download at fboweb.com that shows realtime flight traffic for many airports, and even has an hourly snapshot of all planes currently in the air that have a U.S. departure or arrival. (Once you have Google Earth installed, go to fboweb.com and click on the "Google Earth Primer" button.) It's a dramatic piece of software: there you are, in your own home, and you can monitor planes taking off and landing at LAX, O'Hare or a handful of other impossibly busy airports. The SpaceNavigator improves the experience, by giving...
