After his successful prosecution of Mooney and Billings, Attorney Fickert twice ran unsuccessfully for re-election as District Attorney, once ran unsuccessfully for Governor of California. He always swore that Mooney and Billings got a fair trial, though for the rest of his life he was the object of threats and imprecations.
