...Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and compositions by Menotti, Stravinsky and John Harbison. The other, which came out two years later, is called The Girl with Orange Lips and is a collection of highly unusual contemporary pieces. Both won Grammys. Her next album, the Symphony No. 3 by Polish composer Henryk Gorecki, on which she was the soloist, became the most unexpected classical crossover hit of all time, landing on the British pop charts in 1993. Now Upshaw has another unlikely triumph on her hands: a new album called I Wish It So, which consists of mostly unfamiliar theater...
Russia, facing a mounting outcry to keep its weapons-grade plutonium under tighter control, said it had arrested smugglers on its own soil. Police said they had detained three men Aug.12 in Kaliningrad, a western outpost on the Polish border, after they tried to sell a 132-pound container of the radioactive material for $1 million. The would-be buyers included Poles, Germans and Russians. Paul Rudnick wrote the original script for Sister Act and the final version of The Addams Family, but his name was on neither film. Carrie Fisher did a polish on Sister Act, but her work was anonymous, as it was on Hook, Made in America and Lethal Weapon 3. On Wolf, Wesley Strick's surgery earned him co-author credit; Elaine May's consultation was a secret known only to all Hollywood...
...sexes. Lisa Carol Freemont, the most eligible Park avenue princess, is in love with said photographer and is trying to convince him to take the next step in any wholesome '50's relationship, marriage. Grace Kelly and James Stewart are inimitable in the respective roles. Kelly, with the finesse, polish and beauty which is her trademark, jousts incredibly well with the curmudgeonly, witty Stewart, whose character L.B. Jeffries will not submit to the web of charm in which Kelly's Freemont tries to entangle...
