...already faces one handicap: she emerged as Kadima chairwoman after a bruising leadership battle that has left her party divided. Livni has 42 days to form a new coalition representing 61 of the 120 Knesset seats. If she fails, under Israeli law, President Peres will turn to another politician - most likely Benjamin Netanyahu of Likud, the conservative opposition party - to see if he fares any better. ...school textbooks weren’t required to elaborate on. I had never heard of explorer Zheng He, whose gargantuan fleets of colossal ships in 1405 were superior to Christopher Columbus’s almost a century after. I was fascinated by Zakaria’s account of communist politician Deng Xiaoping’s speeches about economic reform in the 1950s that pointed China away from the elusive rhetoric of communism and toward more practical economic policy. Even more interesting is Zakaria’s take on modern events, as he identifies the way countries like China and India...

This middling drama is less a history lesson than a tour of sumptuous real estate. The loveliest acreage is Knightley's alabaster back...
...torpid as it went on. The producers decided, astutely, that it needed to return dirtier and sexier, or there would be no mo' money. The return episode is also funnier and dumber, in the best sense: it's the kind of show in which a jilted wife confronts her politician husband with a golf club in the shower over his tranny lover. Its stripped-from-the-tabloids approach is nothing new, but it's well done, and a little familiarity won't hurt the show's chances...
