...criticising the dormitory as a unit for scrub sport, it must be remembered that this year, which is the poorest so far in point of numbers, over one hundred men competed in the bumping races. A scrub sport of any sort that employs one hundred men in competitive exercise for a month can hardly be called unsuccessful. One thing is certain: there have never been so many men rowing under any other system in the University as there has been under the dormitory system this year. Until a very much better plan can be evolved, enthusiastic and careful supervision...

Reflecting on his own struggle to get an education, he resolved to found a school where the poorest boys and girls might learn and at the same time pay all the expenses of their education. This resolution was carried out in the Idaho Industrial Institute which he founded eight years ago with the help of five or six friends. Twenty students were admitted at that time. ...HAVEN, CONN., Oct. 1, 1907.--The last practice for the Yale football team before the Wesleyan game ended today in a 15-minute scrimmage, in which the university team won, 6 to 0. The forward pass and onside kick proved to be the poorest ground-gainers, the university eleven relying chiefly on straight football for most of the gains. Coy and Jones made 25 and 40-yard runs from the backfield, after receiving kicks. Brides was again in the line...
