...game between the freshmen and sophomores on Jarvis field yesterday afternoon was the poorest exhibition of foot-ball that has been seen in Cambridge this season. In fact it was not only poor foot-ball, but a disgraceful exhibition, for holding, off-side play and slugging were constant and evident. It is a little ungrateful, perhaps, to criticize harshly officials who act out of kindness to the captains of the class teams, but it is only fair to the men who played to say that there would have been no temptation for their forgetting themselves as far as they...

...with a few exceptions, did not seem to enter into the spirit of the game, in spite of the fact that they were coached to be energetic. There were several important changes made in the positions of the men and this may in some degree account for the general poor playing. The elevens lineup as follows...

...take very well to their new positions. Acton played poorly both in blocking and getting through and his interference was of but little use. Mackie, who has played centre before, did not play at all well; he was slow in getting the ball into play and was outplayed by Brice. Trafford did fairly well but was handicapped by his sprained wrist. Gage played a brilliant game, tackling very well, and also made many good runs with the ball. The interference was very poor, the tacklers were not knocked down as they should have been, but were only pushed aside...

...team repeatedly had to submit to the most unjust decisions, while Fall River men were seldom or never made to pay the forfeits of unfair playing, though several of them were repeatedly warned that they were either holding or playing off-side. Ninety-four played rather loosely and with poor interference, which was not surprising considering the crippled condition of the men. In the latter half, the work was much better. Brooks made a touchdown but missed the try for goal. Several of the Fall River men stood, while this was going on, between the ball and line...

...rushline Waters played well and also Mackie and Acton, the latter having a very poor man opposite him. Brice played a much better game at centre than in the Williams game and seemed to have but little trouble with Whitman. Upton played well and made a very good stop of one of McNear's punts. Newell and the ends also played good games. For the B. A. A., Waters and McNear gained the most ground and also did most of the tackling. Thayer Bellfield and Peters also played well...
