Usage:

Shakespeare didn't call his play Shylock: The Jew of Venice. The title character is Antonio, who rashly wagered his flesh as collateral for a loan. Shylock was simply Antonio's banker, whose humiliation--by lovely, quick-witted Portia--is irrelevant to the romantic intriguing that consumes most of the plot. But Shylock's injured majesty and his rough treatment by the play's putative hero and heroine have hijacked The Merchant of Venice and made it a showcase for great actors. Using digital video allows the crew to set up quickly and shoot more scenes. Some of the funniest moments are fleeting flashbacks that wouldn't be practical on a traditionally shot sitcom. Edelman's set works effectively to underline this theme of materialism. It seems at first ridiculously simple, consisting only of a large box and the three caskets that contain the key to Portia's fortune. These caskets, the very symbols of greed arranged and rearranged into the various settings of the play gradually drive home the inconsistencies in the Venetians' ideals...
