Thankfully, there’s no decorating wound a trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond won’t heal, and my apartment transformed from uninhabitable cave to posh Midtown pad in no time. With a bus stop nearby and the subway station only a 10-minute walk away, I was ready to settle in to summer and explore my new home...

Kilton bought the dress at Pish Posh, a children's boutique in Omaha. Pish Posh owner Angie Bekins opened the store in April of this year after contemplating the idea for 13 years. That she finally did so amid a war and a recession seems to have had few ill effects. Bekins says the store's sales in its first month were "phenomenal," and they have only improved, with June being her "best month ever." T shirts retailing for $20 and dresses for $100 are being snapped up faster than Bekins can reorder them. She says one customer purchased...

Chefs across the U.S. embarked last year on a burger binge, creating increasingly luxuriant foie gras--and truffle-filled versions of the American classic. Attention this year has turned to another summer classic: the humble hot dog. Restaurateur Danny Meyer has set up an outdoor wiener cart near his posh New York City restaurant Eleven Madison Park. Among his fancy franks is a Chicago dog, left, served with 10 toppings on a poppy-seed bun. The Old Homestead Steak House, also in New York, has introduced a $19 Kobe-beef frankfurter, served in a custom-baked brioche bun with truffle...
