Beasts of Berlin (Producers Pictures Corp.). In the windy March of 1918 Manhattan's flag-wrapped Broadway Theatre flaunted an announcement: "WARNING: Any person throwing mud at this poster will not be prosecuted." The poster advertised a new thriller: The Kaiser, Beast of Berlin. Inside the theatre, girl ushers, togged out as Belgian peasants, distributed programs which promised "an amazing expose of the intimate life of the Mad Dog of Europe." The picture did not quite live up to the promise. It described the hardships and eventual victory of the conquered Belgians. Hero was the original Tarzan, big, soft...

News From Rome, the famed one-sheet poster newspaper of the Fascist Party, is pasted up weekly on walls all over Italy, claims 30,000,000 readers. In copies reaching the U. S. last week, News From Rome exhorted: "Don't whimper if you lack coffee. Be thankful that the Duce took steps in time to provide enough grain-for all. . . . Don't get the idea of hoarding anything at home, especially food. . . . Leave in the banks any money you have deposited. . . . Leave news from foreign sources alone. . . . Politics is not your business. Let Him-at Rome...

...poster outside an enlistment office in Newark, N. J. had to be taken down last week. Reason: It was too effective. Its screaming eagle and covey of zooming pursuit planes made every recruit want to join the Air Corps. To lean, soft-spoken Major Thomas B. Woodburn, this was cause for quiet satisfaction. With the U. S. Army upped to 227,000 men by Presidential proclamation, it is Tom Woodburn's job to boom recruiting. He paints posters to that end, rejoiced to hear that his latest was so attractive...
