Professor J. K. Paine's opera, "Azara" was given its first public performance in Chickering Hall last evening, before a large and interested audience. The opera treats a powerful theme, and at times rises to the highest pitch of dramatic power and lyrical expression. The concerted parts of the opera were particularly effective and stirring, and of great richness of tone and harmony.
