These two "friendly enemies" had in their turn a predecessor in the pre-Civil War days which was one body and known as "Parliament, or Debating Society. Its arguments on slavery often served to heat an otherwise chilly room by means of abundant, fervid productions. Just how warm the rivalry between the present parties will turn out to be, remains to be seen, but it is doubtful whether, lacking the lubrication which was indispensable in the older clubs, the speeches will have that old time flavor, and fiushed conviction...

"As soon as the businessmen of this country realize the commercial possibilities of the air-plane, as Europe has already done, then and only then, will the civil air-force begin to attain the technical skill and pre-eminence which the Army Air Force has developed in its few years of service...

This stratum the investigator likens to the Pre-Cambrian, and assumes to be of great antiquity. Upon this base are laid numerous formations which at recurring intervals indicate an accumulation of debris from the most distant regions of the continent. Traces of Colorado gumbo, New Jersey sand, and Ohio clay were identified. The dominant type, however, was a dust...
