...that was crucial to his success "cannibals," and claiming he had been "blackmailed" into resigning. Following Gingrich's resignation, a throng of Republicans announced their candidacy for the Speaker's post and other leadership positions. Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Calif.) and Rep. Robert Livingston (R-La.)--both of whom preach the radical notion of working with the minority party--have emerged as top candidates to replace Gingrich...

...United Nations goodwill ambassador with a can-do spirit and a string of mild expletives. "I'm damn well going to use my fame positively!" the newly decolletage-free pop star exclaimed at a U.N. press conference. So while her former bandmates tour the world, Halliwell, 26, will preach to it. She'll stump for the U.N. ...Heston can preach traditional values from his Beverly Hills perch, it is because he is seen as one of the rare Tinseltown practitioners. Raised in rural Michigan, he has fond memories of roaming the woods with his .22-cal. rifle (and unhappy ones of his parents' broken marriage). He studied drama at Northwestern University, where he met his wife, Lydia Clarke, an actress and photographer. They have been married for 54 years and remain close to their two grown children. As for his six-year-old grandson Jack, who lives close by, Heston's macho stance melts, and he turns...
