Knowing the future would be as much a burden as a boon. If we are given the winning numbers in the lottery next week, might we also be told much else about which we would prefer to remain in ignorance? A just God, never mind the demanding and sometimes ironic God of the Old Testament, would surely cause us to know our future failures as well as our future triumphs. ...Barak, too, may ultimately prefer the national unity option. It makes sense for him in some ways, but there's so much maneuvering going on that it's too early to pin down. Sharon has said he wants a unity government, with Barak as defense minister.
