...page copyrighted report was compiled by Abram Chayes '43, professor of Law, and Jerome B. Wiesner, Provost of M.I.T., at the suggestion of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy '54. The report states that it is an attempt to "present the other' side" of the controversial program, since the information available to Congress and the public thus far has been largely limited to Defense Department releases...
...main part of the store is the paperback area with an exceptional fiction section. The selection looks like the natural, obvious one for a student community, but--and this is the book store manager's big headache--there are at present "67,000 paperbacks in print," and the next book listing them all will probably double in size. The film's last shot does the same through another semi-metaphor for personal experience. The couple reunited, the barge casts off, and Vigo cuts to a very high shot of the barge (from an airplane) which sweeps over it as it sails down river. The shot is a metaphor for their continuing progress...
Another examples of eclectic music was Michael Friedmann's Leuchten, a "work in progress" for four players. I hope the work progresses considerably because in its present pseudo-Webernian condition it seems unimaginative in the extreme and generally unredeemable. Janice Hamer's String Trio, while stronger, suffers from repetitive alternation between cantilena and pizzicato writing...
