At this morning's sequel performance, when Brown and Darling presented their new emergency plan to try again to get banks lending, journalists were outnumbered by their hosts and attendant staff. In just a few months, the prospect of the government spending billions of pounds of taxpayers' money...
...cousin, a cameraman, had arrived in an armed press vehicle after hearing the warnings issued by the Israeli military that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) headquarters, across the street from our apartment-building compound, and all the surrounding buildings would be bombed within the coming minutes. He arrived at our door just as the news began to spread. The entire building was quickly evacuated. We were, in fact, among the last to leave. We were asked to wait in the entrance for a few minutes, following which we ran one at a time to the vehicle parked...
There's an amusing video making the e-mail rounds through the New York City environmental crowd. In it, Stephen Saunter, a press officer at the Wildlife Conservation Society and New York's Bronx Zoo, sadly addresses an employee he is about to lay off. The governor has just announced severe budget cuts at the zoo, he says, "so there's no easy way to say this ... we're going to have to let you go." The camera pans over to reveal that the just-fired employee is a porcupine...
