...because they make the bizarre inescapably logical, and any work of art dealing in horror and suspense must try to do the same. Dream-logic is clearly the goal in Repulsion, Roman Polanski's second feature-length film, but a clumsy visual style, dull acting, and a rudimentary script prevent the characters from ever seeming real. We are not afraid because we see through the illusion, and the best one can say of Polanski is that at least he is enough of a magician to keep us from laughing...

Harvard's defense has gives up only 40 points all year, one of the best defensive records in the country. So at least the Crimson should be able to prevent Princeton from rolling up an embarrassingly large score...

...Rockefeller's apparent forthcoming defeat has not yet elicited much open comment. An interesting exception is a letter sent earlier this year to Senator Javits by State Senator John Hughes of Syracuse. Hughes, the senior Republican in the Senate and a conservative, urged Javits to run for Governor to prevent "a defeat for the Republican Party from which it would not soon recover." Hughes certainly would not have written the letter and acknowledged it publicly if he were not convinced that Nelson Rockefeller is going to lose very badly indeed...
