It savors somewhat of the fairy tales of Madame D'Aubigne, but it runs, notwithstanding, very smoothly, and one cannot help but be touched by the sketch of the simple, little princess, Amelia. "A Duplex Tragedy" is vivacionsly told and, barring the fact that three lives are lost in the course of the narrative, one is kept laughing at the fickle, feather-brained Frangois. ...Francis Parkman, is not only instructive but possesses the charm of the other writings of that able historian. Perhaps the most interesting article in this number is that by Ellen Terry Johnson, called "The Queen Behind the Throne." It is a short sketch of a wonderful woman, the Princess des Ursins, the Madame de Maintenon of Spain. The writer enters into details which general histories have not space for, and the result is an admirable work. Among other articles presented are "A Southern Planter" and "American Fiction...
Another story follows entitled "Princess Capricia." As it is the third in this month's Advocote, it has the disadvantage of having had two similar pieces coming before it, and thus the reader perchance would have desired something other than a story. But "Princess Capricia" is brightly told, and by leaving the matter in hand a little in doubt keeps the interest up after reading. The author has hit upon a good idea there...
