Although Gyorffy faced little to no competition in the collegiate ranks and in her own nation this past season, she was able to prepare for worlds by competing in several IAAF meets in Europe throughout the summer. Taylor and Gyorffy have each been active in recent competition. Gyorffy placed sixth in an IAAF Golden League meet in Monaco last Friday with a 1.95-meter height—her best of the summer—and then jumped 1.89 meters to place fourth at a Grand Prix meet in London two days later. Taylor most recently placed seventh at a Grand Prix meet in Stockholm with a time of 57.95 seconds, well off of her personal best of 55.46 seconds, which she ran in Zagreb on July...

Gyorffy, a 2000 Sydney Olympian, jumped in three world-class IAAF Grand Prix meets in a span of just eight days from June 29 to July 6. In those three meets, which took place in Italy, Switzerland and Paris, Gyorffy finished no worse than seventh but no better than sixth, with top performances ranging from 1.85 to 1.90 meters. The best jump in the world this year is 2.04 meters...
