The House Ethics Committee announced that it would investigate whether Geraldine Ferraro, as a Congresswoman, had improperly claimed an exemption from disclosing the finances of her husband John Zaccaro. The committee had no choice politically except to proceed with a probe, once the conservative Washington Legal Foundation had formally challenged Ferraro's right to the exemption.
