When we think of science as an activity, we think of a process involving the steps of observation, interpretation, formulation of an hypothesis (and a means of testing it), further observation and so forth. If successful, the end result is an expanded understanding of some principle or law governing the area under investigation. Occasionally even a new law is discovered.
