Died. Alexander Procofieff de Seversky, 80, Russian-born aeronautical pioneer; in Manhattan. A czarist pilot who downed 13 German planes in World War I after losing a leg in combat, Seversky settled in the U.S. after the Bolshevik Revolution. He founded the Seversky Aircraft Corp. (later Republic Aviation); helped develop the automatic bombsight, the automatic pilot and in-flight fueling; and built and test-flew a number of advanced fighters and amphibious planes.
