Hastening to restore confidence in its imprimatur, the FDA last week launched a crash program to re-evaluate 30 of the most commonly prescribed generic medications, including such prevalent antibiotics as ampicillin and oral penicillin. Over the next six weeks, the agency will test more than 1,000 samples to make sure they are biologically equivalent to their brand-name counterparts. "Hispanic family values encourage females to get married and stay home," says A.S.U. sophomore Sonia Torres, 18. "I probably would not have gone to a four-year college without the program...
Never mind country dachas or four-door Ladas. Soviet authorities figure the best incentive for greater agricultural yields is U.S. dollars or British pounds or German marks. Under an experimental program announced last week, the government will pay foreign cash to growers on state-run farms for excess harvests of wheat and other crops. The hard cash will enable farmers to purchase goods that no amount of rubles can buy, such as sophisticated farm equipment -- or videotape recorders...
